SUM (from the latin word “I am”) is the title of the Debut Album of Alessandro Paganelli featuring nine new compositions for classical guitar, piano, two violins and cello, all written in 2019.

An introspective Album, where the composer manages to blend the classical tradition with all the present music genres, creating music that goes beyond any classification.

“The compositions were written in 2019 during a period of big changes in my life: I decided to use music as a tool to look inside myself and find the inner strength I needed to overcome all the difficulties I was going through. Translating all these feelings and thoughts into sound helped me to discover more about myself and gave me material to share my story and hopefully to inspire others.”

SUM features only five instruments (piano, two violins, cello and classical guitar), which are used by the composer as a small orchestra: borrowing techniques from contemporary composers (serialists, minimalists) and using them in his own way, Paganelli manages to create music that speaks to everyone, where the main goal is to communicate a particular feeling or emotion to push the listener into an introspective journey.

His way of composing reveals a urge to tell a story in the most direct way, without losing quality in the process: “When I compose, I always search for a key to access the place wherein a bridge between the sound and the listener is created, allowing communication between the composer, the performer and the audience: a conversation that goes beyond words and enables us to feel a reflection of ourselves through sound.”

Recorded, mixed and mastered in Fuseroom Recording Studio in Berlin (November/December 2019)
